BOW HOUSE
This project involved the refurbishment and extension of a locally listed Victorian terraced home within the Tredegar Square Conservation Area. The original living spaces were small, disconnected, and lacked natural light. SOAK designed a side infill extension with large expanses of glass, opening up the floor plan to create a spacious social area connected to the garden. The clients, who enjoy entertaining, benefit from an adaptable space ideal for hosting gatherings. The kitchen, positioned to face the dining area, allows the hosts to continue socialising while preparing meals.
Warmth and texture are introduced through an expressive timber structure, large casement doors, and natural lime plaster walls. Stainless steel kitchen worktops offer a seamless and durable surface for cooking. Special attention was paid to the detail of the joinery throughout, enhancing the tactile quality of the interiors. Calm bathing areas were also created to provide space for reflection. The building was constructed using natural, breathable materials, with minimal use of steel and concrete.
